You gotta REPROGRAM the remote each and every time you remove the batteries...

the same happened to me and wot happened was i had the scart plug in the wrong socket at the back there is an input socket and an output socket on the virgin box..i had about 8 months ago changed everything around and put it back together wrong. i was cursing virgin 4 havin crap remotes and it was my fault all along...doohh!!!! perhaps that is not ur problem but that is wot was wrong with mine..good luck.
Ah, you have to get your TV Screen's progam code, and then reprogram them into the remote. It happens. Usually there is a list of them on a sheet that came with the remote.
