How does the cruise control button(s)/knob work in my Volvo 850 Sedan?

It's got the light switch thing on the edge of the blinker on the left and the on off switch. But I can't seem to get it to ';set';/turn on.





Any suggestions/hints to what i could try?How does the cruise control button(s)/knob work in my Volvo 850 Sedan?
Get on the freeway or stretch of highway and give yourself some safety cushion if other cars are near u. Accelerate to about 50 or at freeway speed limit.....note what speed your going and maintain speed....move cruise control switch to ';on'; position......slide the same switch to the far left as possible for a few seconds and the switch should spring back when u let go...take foot off accelerator and the speed you were going should stay until u depress the brake pedal or turn cruise control switch off....if your cruise control switch shows the + or - sign at the end of the switch, push the button up towards the + sign and the car should start to speed up until u let go...and the car should slow down when u push the button towards the - sign.....If all fails, then the cruise control is inoperative due to faulty cruise control devices...That means taking it to a Volvo specialists...How does the cruise control button(s)/knob work in my Volvo 850 Sedan?
