Why do we press harder on remote control buttons when we know the battery is dead?

It is some sort of neurotic tendency. One possible reason might be that they are in instant denial, they don't want to believe it's not working right now because they are desperate to watch TV because that's their addiction in the present moment. These are also people who cannot calmly handle life's challenges. They get upset at the least little thing going wrong. They need to just take life as it comes, stay relaxed no matter what happens, be patient, and think of solutions. Me, I'd just say, oh, well, better go get some more batteries. It's obvious, isn't it?Why do we press harder on remote control buttons when we know the battery is dead?
Probably because even though we know that no matter how hard we press the button, nothing will happen, somewhere in our minds we still believe that if we apply enough pressure to the button our will power alone will power the remote. Humans are strange creatures :)Why do we press harder on remote control buttons when we know the battery is dead?
Because we're hoping that it's not dead so we don't get up. Also we think that we just think they aren't pressing the buttons hard enough to work. lol.
Didn't you know that the harder you press the more juice you suck out of the batteries? Psh, everyone knows that!
