My ceiling fan has a button to control which way the blades swing? What's the difference?

Counter Clockwise rotation, as viewed from below, pushes the air down. This is what you want during the summer. Reversing it ( clockwise rotation) moves the air upward. Some believe this helps during cold weather to distribute warm air. I personally believe it's best to leave the fans off during the winter time.My ceiling fan has a button to control which way the blades swing? What's the difference?
In cooler weather you want to push the warm air down, in warmer weather you want to pull the warm air up to maintain comfort. My ceiling fan has a button to control which way the blades swing? What's the difference?
In the winter you reverse the blade and it draws the heat up and sends it to the outer walls. In the summer you reverse the blades for the down draft.
one is a down flow,(summer) and the other is a up flow.(winter)
during warm weather you want the blades turning so they push the air down. during cool weather you want the blades turning so they pull the air up to the ceiling and push it to the walls. (cool air falls--the blades forcing the air down are also cooling the warm air. warm air rises-- forcing the air to the ceiling causes the warm air that is there to push out to the walls and forces it down so that it warms the room.) both settings also help circulate the air so the room isn't stuffy or stale.

as to which setting forces air up and which forces down---it depends on how your fan blades are angled. stand under the fan, if you feel a strong breeze the air is blowing down. if you feel a slight breeze or nothing then the air is being forced up.
draw up in the winter and push down in the summer, just remember ////up heat////down cool///
Fan turns clockwise and counterclockwise. Use counterclockwise in summer weather to send heat up and clockwise in winter to bring heat down.
Try both directions. I found that it didn't make that much difference as far as mixing the air is concerned. It may make a difference to you, depending on where you sit in the room. A cooling breeze may be better one way than the other, usually the downward direction. Both directions mix the air in several rooms.
The controls are for summer and winter settings. For the summer the button should be down so the air blows down. In the winter months the button should be up to circulate the warm air from your heater.
