Want more info on a vehicle's Overdrive button and Cruise Control.?

What exactly do the two do and what are the advantages and disadvantages of both? Are they better on gas on or off? Does your car run better with them on or off? When do you use them and when should you not use them?Want more info on a vehicle's Overdrive button and Cruise Control.?
The Overdrive button is there to turn the overdrive off, its set to be on all the time, having it on saves gas and engine strain. If you are ever towing something or in a very hilly area in which the car needs to turn higher rpm's then you would want to turn it off to improve the cars performance. The Cruise Control can be used whenever but it is really for when your on the interstate or a highway in which you will be maintaining the same speed for a while, its not very practical for ';stop and go'; driving.
