Water heater pilot goes out after turning temp control dial? Red button held for 1 minute, still not stay lit?

I hold down the red knob that expells the air/gas for one minute and everything is fine and pilot is lit but as soon as I turn the temperature control knob the thing fires up for 1-2 seconds then the pilot goes out. Can anyone help out? I've already replaced the thermocouple and I obviously have gas.

If the heater is newer than 8 years then it should have a sealed combustion chamber. If the screens get clogged with dust and pet hair then the air gets choked off and the sensors won't allow burner to stay on.There should be plastic screen around bottom of heater below burner/ combustion chamber. There also is a fine metal screen in flat bottom of combustion chamber.Look in little window with flashlight and find top of screen. Then get underneath screen with wire brush and vacuum wand.A good indication the screens are clogged is a yellow flame.A blue flame is what you want. Also inspect inside burner chamber with flashlight,If you see a lot of soot and debris inside on top of burner. This stuff will foul sensors.Sealed combustion chamber can be opened up and cleaned out.If this heater is older and has a open burner disregard all info.Water heater pilot goes out after turning temp control dial? You may have to bleed the air out 3 or 4 times in order to get alol the air out of the lines. If that doesn't take care of it,you may need to turn the pilot light up a little higher for it to keep burning, another thing your orfice could be clogged up.
