How can I control the player using the buttons instead of the left stick of the gamepad?

I just got FIFA 2009 soccer PC game. The problem with the game is that I could not control my soccer players using the buttons but instead I have to use the left stick in moving them around the pitch.How can I control the player using the buttons instead of the left stick of the gamepad?
I'm sorry, I don't really understand the question myself, but if you want to use different controls for a game go to the options and under controls of most games you have the option of changing buttons...
