If you put the remote in bright sunlight for a minute, it makes the buttons glow REALLY bright if you take it into a dark room right away.

The more energy the chemical absorbs, the more it can emit. This is a phenomenon called phosphorescence, where the chemical can emit light after the energy source has been removed.
