Why do we press harder on the remote control buttons, when we know the batteries weak?

...and not only that but why do we try it 20 more times getting closer and closer to the telly and still not switch it over on the box itself? Why do we press harder on the remote control buttons, when we know the batteries weak?
The same reason that we keep pressing elevator or crosswalk buttons. Why do we press harder on the remote control buttons, when we know the batteries weak?
Like when we push the button on the elavator when its already lit - we have the magic finger and other people don't!
because we cant be asked to get up and change the batteries.
cos it could easily be that some wires have come unattached and therefore are not responding to the pressing of the buttons. Also- if you're talking about the communal remotes- where everyone uses it in the house- it could be because scum gets in and the same reason as before. Lastly we must do the battery check cos they're meant to last forever like the bunny rabbits!
coz we HOPE!!!
When the batteries are weak, the signal can become weaker. When this happens, pushing on the button hard forces the remote to send a longer, continuous signal which has a better chance of being received by the TV / DVD player / etc. Up until the point where the battery dies and remote stops working completely, this works.
force of habit.....just like we keep trying to open a door even after we realise its locked
We Are All Mad
lol pure laziness and anger
the same reason we shout when some1 don't speak the same language!!!
I guess we're just hoping that by some miracle it'll make a difference and are too Lazy to accept that we have to actually change the batteries! Lol!!
LMAO Because we are mad!
It is one of the fundamental properties of our Universe.

Like going to the Kitchen and forgetting what you went in there for or finding only one of a pair of socks when you take your clothes out of a washing machine.

I personally believe that we have deluded ourselves into thinking that the electronic impulses that our brains send down to the fingers pressing the buttons transmits itself into the remote to increase the power of the remote. ';Couch Potato's'; have been found to have amazing neuron activity coursing through their bodies when doing this. It also explains why we give and receive static shocks as we have developed this supernatural power.

If you are interested in finding out more I recommend reading Douglas Adam's ';The Meaning of Liff.'; Which gives you the description of the words for these actions. I personally like the meaning of the word ';Toronto.'; If you cannot find yours listed then you will have the privilege of naming it. The only drawback is it has to be a place name.
It's a natural reaction like when you hit a TV to make it work again.. we know it won't work!
It's the same principle as people speaking loudly to foreigners who don't understand the language. People think that by speaking loudly the person will, by some miracle, understand, instead of which the poor person is probably frightened to death!!
Pressing harder on the buttons does work, but I find that tapping it on the side of the sofa / hubbies head keeps them alive for a few more weeks.Harder taps will be required as time draws on.
I feel that if I press the buttons with authority it lets the batteries know I mean business! It works doesn't it?
